3 Solid Pieces of Advice for the First-Time Remote Work Employer

The work of an employer can be back-breaking because their team’s performance is one of their biggest responsibilities. Even when you’re working with a remote team, you should still be able to think of ways to make remote work effective and efficient for everyone, and of course, for yourself.

As an employer, you should be able to iron out even the smallest details when implementing remote work for the first time to make things sail smoothly. You might not be sure how to do things in the beginning, but here are three solid pieces of advice for the first-time remote work employer:

Make Sure That Everyone Is on Board With You

Some might be at odds with having their teams working from home. Make sure that you are in the know and aware of how your management feels about this. They would probably much prefer to work with them in a conventional office setting and work schedule. In that case, it is your job to try to build a consensus in implementing remote work.

Enlighten them about how remote work will be of great help to the company and push them into the direction of acknowledging the benefits for everyone. Let them know what certain qualifications and criteria are there to avoid resentment between employees who work from home and those who don’t, due to assumptions.

Prioritize Strong Communication

Securing harmonious relationships may be challenging when working with a remote team across locations and time zones. Unlike inside a regular office environment, you don’t have to worry about whether they communicate enough with their co-workers or not.

Having a remote team doesn’t mean you shouldn’t interact with them face-to-face and keep things virtual. Being far away from workmates is not a good reason for you to not connect with them. Ensure consistent and strong communication, not just online. Consider having meetings with them in person.

It would also help if you ask them about how they prefer to communicate. Group chats and video calls are great if you want them to be well informed, but conducting a meeting in person makes sure you maintain strong business bonds with your remote workers. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to ask for feedback from them as well. This way, it will be easier to get honest and raw answers from them.

Determine Which Jobs Are Flexible And Remote Work-friendly

There are certain jobs that cannot be done remotely. It would be best if you leave some jobs not remote at all. Take your time to assess why specific roles can be done remotely, and if the work being done produces a satisfactory output. Who knows, you might have missed a spot or overlooked some positions that are feasible to be done from home. Form specifications to be able to work remotely; it could be depending on their position, medical issues, and more. Bringing these clear criteria into being can greatly affect the company in a positive way.
